ARCHBISHOP HOWARD SCHOOL ENDOWMENT FUND

The CEEF Endowment Fund for AHS has seen small but steady growth over the years. However, in the past few years we have been blessed by the Joseph E. Weston Fund that has matched dollar for dollar up to $9000 (for 07-08) in contributions made to our CEEF endowment fund. This year the Maybelle Clark Macdonald Fund has joined Mr. Weston in his generosity to Catholic Schools and will match up to $8500 (07-08) in contributions to our CEEF endowment Fund.

The chart below tracks our growth over the past six years.

Welcome to Third Grade

At Archbishop Howard School we encourage our third graders to grow as spiritual, educated, physically well-rounded, and globally aware young people. As third graders move toward independence, they need the approval, guidance, and support of a loving family and classroom community. Third graders learn best when they have guidelines and rules to follow and know that their feeling are accepted. They build self-esteem as they complete tasks that allow for success and foster a feeling of pride and accomplishment.

DROP OFF & PICK UP PROCEDURES

DROP OFF & PICK UP PROCEDURES

Archbishop Howard School has produced a Drive Thru Video to demonstrate our Drop-Off and Pick-Up procedure. Please review the video to ensure the safety of all children and staff.

To save yourself and others some frustration, please drive with the flow of traffic. Remember to drive north on 53rd (toward Stanton) and south on 54th (toward Alameda). Please cross streets safely at street corners. Do not cross in the middle of the street. The small parking lot next to the playground is reserved for parish parking. Do not use this parking lot to drop off or pick up students.

Thank you for helping to make a safe drop off and pick up for our students.

Whitaker Ponds Field Trip

The third grade students spent several days studying watersheds, water pollution, and macroinvertebrates as biological indicators of water quality. During the first classroom presentation, Megan Hanson, from City Environmental Services, taught the children how pollution in the air and soil will eventually end up in the water. The next day she showed them several macroinvertebrates (water bugs) and explained how their sensitivity or insensitivity to pollution in water indicates to scientists the quality of the water. Later that week, the third graders had their chance to be water scientists. At Whitaker Ponds, they took water samples, found macroinvertebrates, and sorted them according to their sensitivity to pollution. They were then able to determine that the water was fairly clean-at least for that day! Every one agreed that this field trip was a terrific experience.
